Upon its release on Netflix in November, the Marvel series Jessica Jones was showered with almost instant praise by fans and critics. No one was more surprised and pleased with the overwhelming positive response than the series’ star, Krysten Ritter. The actress told the Hollywood Reporter how she felt after sudden success:
“I always thought the show was good and it always felt a lot bigger than just me getting a part. I’m glad it started the conversations that it has and that women like it and it’s been really welcomed by fans of the comic books.”
One of the things that Jessica Jones did incredibly well was tackling serious issues like rape and PTSD while portraying a very capable female protagonist. As the talks turn to when audiences can expect another season, neither Ritter nor showrunner Melissa Rosenberg seem to know what is in store for the private investigator with superpowers. The runaway success of the series may have come as a surprise to Marvel, who has its plate full with a Defenders shoot. This is not even including the second season of Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, which are all a part of Marvel’s overall TV plan.
Whenever Jessica may return, Ritter is all but anxious to jump back into the role.
“I think there is lots of story left to tell with Jessica and I really love playing the character. I would love to throw on her boots and leather jacket anytime,” the actress said.
While the second season of Daredevil was confirmed 11 days after the first season debuted on Netflix, it is certain that somewhere down the road Jessica will come back to the superhero fold (even though it’s something that the character tries to resist profusely). Whether that moment happens in an appearance on her soon-to-be-husband Luke Cage’s series, or somewhere else, it’s clear that Marvel has a grand plan for the character before she joins up with The Defenders.
