Guy Fieri has a wine coming out.
This is big news for people who ask bartenders for “um… I guess a red one” (this is big news for me). The bottles, $75 a pop, won’t be available until around Thanksgiving, which will give you and your NASCAR-loving uncle something to talk about. All this, and much, much more, was brought up in a fascinating profile of the official Super Bowl chef by GQ‘s Drew Magary.
You should obviously read the entire thing, but there’s one part that’s of particular interest to Flavortown aficionados. Fieri’s entertaining feud with Anthony Bourdain is well known, even outside of chef circles. Bourdain referred to Fieri’s American Bar and Kitchen as a “terror-dome” filled with “douchebags.” Fieri joked/not-joked that Bourdain’s a “no-good, loud mouth, jerkoff, wannabe authority, pseudo rebel, nerd, sh*t-talking, blow hard, celebrity-seeking, Eric Ripert coattail, Mario Batali ass-kissing hate monger.” Bourdain wondered if Fieri will ever “de-douche.” And so on.
Fieri’s had enough, though.
“It’s actually disappointing,” Fieri says when I tell him about Bourdain’s show. “I don’t like him making fun of people, and I don’t like him talking sh*t. And he’s never talked shit to my face. I know he’s definitely gotta have issues, ’cos the average person doesn’t behave that way. It’s not that I’m not open to the reality that the food world was like this from a few people’s perspective. It’s just, What are you doing? What is your instigation? You have nothing else to f*cking worry about than if I have bleached hair or not? I mean, f*ck.” (Via)
Meanwhile, Bourdain declined to comment for the story. Hopefully he reads the quotes, though, and comes to a realization: “Life’s too short to be feuding with the guy from Smash Mouth… Wait, who have I been angry at? To think, I could have been enjoying Fush Yu Mang this entire time.”
