It’s incredibly rare for a baby to be born completely encased in its amniotic sac. While it’s not dangerous to burst out into the world “caul” — which is the actual term for being born in the bag you were cooked in — and babies who have to be cut out of their amniotic sacs are actually considered to be lucky and may have the power to tell the future, the cutting of the sac is almost never caught on video. And with only one in approximately 80,000 babies born this way, a recording of a baby being removed from its sac and taking its first cry is something you won’t get to see every day. But today is different. Today you’re going to see the miracle of childbirth close up and you’re going to witness the exact second this adorable little baby is cut out of the tough membranes keeping everything together. (You can even see the newborn yawn before being cut out!)
Watch the baby wriggle, breathe, and then start screaming (as all babies are wont to do once they realize they’ve been unleashed from the safety of their mothers into a cold and unforgiving world). It’s magic!
