We’ve all heard monstrous stories about bedbugs in hotels, apartments, libraries, and every damn place in the universe. Although health officials promise the critters are only a nuisance, there’s no reassuring anyone who’s endured the itchy and swelling bites. It takes months to overcome an infestation, and thanks to the bedbug stigma, no one will love you in the meantime. Seriously, let’s see you try to get lucky with a bed full of tiny vampires. Not gonna happen.
A bedbug resurrection hit New York City around 2007, and one glance at any review site (such as TripAdvisor or Bedbug Registry) will confirm that few hotels have escaped the plague. One couple endured a bloody nightmare during a birthday vacation on New Year’s Eve. They never imagined that booking a hotel on the Upper West Side would be a mistake, but this video tells the hellish ordeal they endured while being eaten alive (after switching rooms twice). Elgin Ozlen, who narrated this video, spoke with abject disappointment:
“On my birthday, I’m in the hospital, and I’m washing the best clothes that I brought that I own for this vacation, and during that process many of the clothes became damaged, because they’re not meant to be dried.”
The Astor on the Park Hotel surely has a public relations nightmare on their hands after this clip went viral and spread across the media. Not only did Ozlen’s girlfriend show off her battle wounds at the end of the video, but now the couple must deal with the prospect of bringing the bugs home.
No sweet dreams in sight.
