Now that Memorial Day Weekend has come and gone, it’s time to toss the hot dogs and make room in your life for one very, very cool dog. Internet, meet Luigi Maestro. Luigi is a five-year-old Shih Tzu from the Upper East Side who cruises the streets of Manhattan much the same way we imagine this other very cool dog would.
Luigi’s mom is author Anisha Lakhani. Why Luigi and his mom have different last names, we’re not totally sure, but it probably causes some confusion at the vet. As does a five-year-old Shih Tzu rolling up to the vet in a BMW by himself. Ten years old and we might understand, but shouldn’t that dog be in school?
To everyone’s surprise, Lakhani actually controls the car via remote control just a few steps behind the pup. Over the weekend, a sportswriter for FiveThirtyEight snapped the pair on the street and his Twit-Pic has since gone viral.

The tweet racked up over 18,000 retweets and 28,000 likes in just two days. To give you a clear idea of how prolific this photo of Luigi has become, the writer’s other tweets typically receive single digit retweets and occasionally double digit likes. (Yikes.) Other people also began sharing photos they had captured of Luigi and his mom.

It turns out the pair were profiled in The New York Post a few weeks ago. Lakhani told the outlet that she gave Luigi the car as a gift for his fifth birthday. She said that as a homegrown Upper East Sider, there is nothing more fitting than a Beemer for Luigi.
We’re thinking a leash could possibly be more fitting, but who knows? Maybe Luigi has a really weird neck and leashes don’t really fit right. In any case, cheers, Luigi! Happy Summer! Can we get a ride or what?
