It’s Only September, But You Can Already Order Your First Pumpkin Spice Latte From Starbucks

No matter how excited you might be for the month of September, nothing compares to the arrival of Starbucks‘ most popular seasonal drink — the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Affectionately known as the “PSL,” the typically autumn drink won’t officially hit the menu until Tuesday, September 6. Yet that’s a whopping five days away, and most #PSL enthusiasts are incapable of waiting that long — especially since McDonald’s began selling a similar concoction in mid-August.

Never fear, for the Seattle-based coffee company is offering customers a way by which they can purchase their first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season almost a full week in advance. Dubbed the “PSL Fan Pass,” the drink’s official Twitter account (yes, it has its own social media presence) provided a link with further details:

The official Starbucks smartphone app is not required. All that’s necessary is for you to enter your mobile number and have at least enough bandwidth to receive a single text message. Once the short process is completed, you can hightail it to your nearest participating Starbucks and order the coveted cup of coffee.

Mackenzie Karr, who serves as a “coffee education specialist” for Starbucks, told Business Insider the company never expected the PSL to become so popular. Thirteen years on, however, “It’s a tradition. Similar to football around Thanksgiving, or dressing up for Halloween, it’s something that people have incorporated into their lifestyles. It’s become part of their seasonal routine.”

Judging by the number of excited responses from eager PSL drinkers on Instagram, Karr isn’t wrong.
