This Guy Upcycled Old Office Furniture To Make Smoked Meat In His Backyard

Cooking meat over smokey fire is probably the oldest method of cooking known to man — it’s what separated us from the rest of the animal kingdom way back when. Ever since we realized that cooking meat with fire only made it more delicious, we’ve been creating devices to smoke, grill, broil, and bake our food to delectable perfection. Recently a Mississippian named Joshua McIntyre found a new way to use some old office furniture to smoke up some good eats.

McIntyre went viral on Facebook for converting one of the classic four-drawer file cabinets into a backyard smoker. And, honestly, it’s kinda genius. All you really need to do is put some wire grates in the bottom of the drawers and you’re good to go. Fill up the bottom drawer with your fire, add a steamer tray for extra smoke in the next drawer, and then you have two drawers full of meat (and vegetables if you insist).

McIntyre knows what he’s doing! That looks like an awesome feast. Before you get too excited and pop open that Amazon app, a four-drawer file cabinet costs about the same as an actual smoker. But, hey, you never know what you’ll find at the next yard sale you hit up. If you need some inspiration, here are some shots of other backyard innovators who know what a file cabinet is really for…smoking amazing cuts of meat:
