Watch This Guy Get Put In Check By Mother Nature Before Your Next Cliff Jumping Trip

Sometimes, it feels like life is sending you a special and important message. You’re out in nature, the weather’s perfect, and there’s a waterfall just begging you to jump off of it and begin that new and exciting life you always hear so much about in romantic comedies where the main character gets a complete personality makeover and is suddenly just, you know, a huge winner.

And you’re in Hawaii. And there’s a rainbow. And you’re like “I gotta jump off this waterfall, the universe is willing it.” And so you pause. You contemplate your life for a second. You think about your choices. And then you know what you do? You go for it. You just take a flying goddamn leap and drop into the abyss that is your exciting new existence. Sounds awesome, right? Even sounds like something you’d do right now if given the chance, no?

Okay, well, don’t do it. Because jumping off cliffs, doesn’t always end well. Just check out the video below.

According to Mashable, the man in the video — Shiloh Shahan — a Californian tourist in Hawaii, almost suffered serious injury when he jumped from Wailua Falls and was not ushered onto a higher plane of adventure but knocked the hell out as soon as he entered the water.

Here’s video of him shot by another tourist who watched the jump from below:

Everything about this is terrifying. Just everything. It’s great to have a healthy spirit for adventure, but you gotta make sure you’re safe first. And there’s nothing safe about being knocked out and then having to be rescued by people who were fortunately around and took care of him until help arrived.

Shahan suffered both a concussion and torn muscles, but the biggest injury may be to his pride. According to Mashable, police asked him if he had been trying to commit suicide and he had to explain that he was just following a “spiritual calling.” Good thing he’s fine, but let’s hope these videos caution other would-be adventurers to pay a little more attention before taking a leap of faith. (Also, you heard his friend freaking out, right? You don’t want someone’s loud screaming to be the soundtrack to the trip of a lifetime.)
