Here’s What’s New On Netflix In October

In case you didn’t already binge watch season 4 of The Walking Dead — made available this past weekend on Netflix streaming — there’s a cache of new programming ready to fill up your queue in October. We’re getting an instant Tarantino classic, a ton of new seasons of TV, and a few new horror films just in time for Halloween.

In the event that you feel that you’re just not watching enough scary or terrifying films and TV shows this Hallows’ Eve, every single episode of The Gilmore Girls will be available this month, so prepare to be horrified.

Django Unchained

Quentin Tarantino is currently on a hot streak of filmmaking with Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained both making their marks during awards season. For Django, Christoph Waltz put in another Oscar-winning performance — his second with Tarantino directing — as a German bounty hunter who takes a slave (Jamie Foxx) under his wing. Django won Tarantino a much deserved screenwriting Oscar, and Leonardo DiCaprio is terrific as the film’s ultimate antagonist.

Shadow of the Vampire

Nosferatu, to this day, stands the test of time as one of the creepiest films ever created. Shadow of the Vampire — a film proclaiming to tell the true story behind the horror classic — adds even more gravitas to the vampire tale. Willem Dafoe snagged a best supporting Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Max Schreck, an actor who takes his role as the titular vampire a bit too seriously.

Team America: World Police

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have proven themselves as a comedic force to be reckoned with in TV, film, and Broadway, and Team America — a brilliant satire featuring puppets hellbent on stopping global terrorism — displays just that. Parker and Stone’s pop culture commentary is as sharp and biting as ever, as they skewer celebrities like George Clooney, Matt Damon, and more.

Tombstone

In 1993 and 1994, two films were released telling the violent story of Wyatt Earp’s attempt to wrangle lawlessness while making a living in Tombstone, Arizona. While Wyatt Earp — with Kevin Costner playing the infamous lawman — was a bit more contemplative, Tombstone is the film you’ll want to check out if you’re more interested in popcorn-crunching fare.

Val Kilmer’s portrayal of Doc Holliday is easily one of Kilmer’s best performances, but really the entire cast did an amazing job of bringing these larger than life characters to the big screen.

Sons of Anarchy: Season 6

SOA has been a riveting television experience since its debut on FX in 2008, but as many of you know, the final season is upon us and it seems that the dark road creator Kurt Sutter has plunged us onto will end its grim course with more death (naturally). For evidence of this, check out season 6 of the series, which is riddled with shocking deaths including several of the main characters.
