Riding the success of indie horror film It Follows, Maika Monroe has just received a blockbuster career upgrade with her addition to the cast of Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2. According to THR, if the deal goes through, the actress will take on the role of President Whitmore’s daughter.
When our own Mike Ryan interviewed Monroe last month, she talked about how the popularity of It Follows came as a complete surprise.
Well, I remember on set, making the movie, I knew that we were making something special and something unique. But, I had no idea to the extent where it is right now. I mean, I had the slightest idea of it at Cannes, but I didn’t know how audiences were going to take it. And all of a sudden, there are amazing reviews and people are really, really liking it. But, I just had no idea.
The high profile sequel will mix in new faces like Monroe, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Jessie Usher with returning actors Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and Judd Hirsch. Much of the original castmembers are set to reprise their roles from the 1996 film.
Independence Day 2 is set to hit theaters on June 24, 2016.
