Idris Elba is a man of many hats. Aside from being an actor best known for his roles on BBC’s Luther and HBO’s The Wire, he is a designer on the verge of presenting a new clothing line, has been known to get on the ones and twos and recently broke the 1928 British land speed record in a Bentley.
All these details are well and good, but the Star Trek: Beyond actor is making history once again as he is the first male to ever grace the cover of popular men’s magazine, Maxim. According to the publication’s new editor-in-chief, Kate Lanphear, there was no one else in the world right for the job:
“We’ve never in U.S. Maxim history had a man on the cover solo,” new editor-in-chief Kate Lanphear told Racked. “This is the very first time, and there was no one else in the world more badass than Idris.”
Maxim’s official Twitter page made the world aware of this watershed moment earlier on Tuesday, forever altering the state of time and space as we know it:

In the September issue, Elba discussed those James Bond rumors by saying, “If I were the Bond producers and everyone was pointing me toward one actor, what’s the surprise in that? Honestly, it’s one of those things that if it should happen, it would be a self-fulfilling prophecy; it would be the will of a nation.”
Well nation, what say you?
