Leave it to Carrie Fisher to make what by all accounts should have been a fairly routine morning show interview into something you don’t see every day. Not only did the Star Wars actress bring her dog Gary along to the interview – with his own chair! – but she got very candid with her interviewer about being a woman in Hollywood, preparing to return to the Star Wars universe after so long away, and her dog’s tongue. Longtime fans may know that Carrie always says exactly what is on her mind, but for people who haven’t seen a decent amount of her interviews, her trademark candidness may be more of a surprise.
It’s refreshing for a major actress to not only say what she’s thinking, no matter what the question is, but to care so little about how people react to her honesty. That personality trait is on full display here as she openly talks about how pretty Amy Robach is and contemplates the quality of her family’s genes. Between the honesty, the sarcasm, and the laughter there’s barely any room left to appreciate the fact that her answers are very smart and confident. Fisher’s dog’s tongue may be the jumping off point for the craziness that ensues, yet all the giggles between Amy and Carrie are only half the fun. Any time an actress or actor on a press tour gets to speak their mind instead of parroting pre-approved answers the studio supplies is a refreshing thing to see. More A-listers should bring their pets to press days to lighten the mood, what could go wrong?
