While Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has dealt with the fallout from Marvel films like Captain America: Civil War, fans shouldn’t be holding their breath for a crossover with the upcoming Inhumans film. Despite the introduction of Inhumans in season 2 of the ABC show, and a growing presence in the third season, actor and Marvel stalwart Clark Gregg doesn’t anticipate any connection to the film, telling Digital Spy:
“The Inhumans movie I suspect will be its own cinematic version… That writer and director will have free reign to do what they want to do with the Inhumans. But hopefully there’ll be some way that our Inhumans connect to that. It’d be too bad if that was wasted.”
While Gregg thinks that crossovers are fun for world building, he acknowledges that the show needs to be its own thing that isn’t fully dependent on the MCU. The Inhumans film won’t be released until July 12, 2019, so Marvel has plenty of time to untangle the web of projects.
While too many moving pieces could be troublesome, it might be cool to see Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson and crew show up in the big screen venture. Still, with all the Marvel shows and franchises, it almost becomes too much for the average fan to keep up with, so they may have to decide between continuity and accessibility.
