‘Cujo’ Is Being Remade As ‘C.U.J.O.: Canine Unit Joint Operations’

The original adaptation of Cujo is a story that could only have happened in the ’80s. Sunn Classic Pictures, a company that had largely made nature documentaries and Bible stories as family-friendly entertainment, got into the Stephen King business with Cujo. And apparently King sold them the rights in perpetuity or something, because they’re attempting a remake titled C.U.J.O.

That stands for “Canine Unit Joint Operations.” It’ll be directed by a guy who hasn’t put a movie on film in more than 20 years and will star the producer of Supermodel Showdown: Costa Rica. If you still doubt the professionalism and budget of this production, their official website should put that to rest.

Yes, everything about this sounds like it’s going to be… interesting, certainly. Of course, it could all crash and burn, or this could instead be a bid to get the rights bought out by a major studio. Or they could genuinely believe that what Cujo was missing as a story was a plotline about what one assumes is the government training dogs to kill, or give them diseases to spread, or something. Hey, we’ll take it over a gritty remake of C.H.O.M.P.S.
