The cast for Kong: Skull Island, a movie about a big ape and the people who love him, keeps getting better. Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John C. Reilly have already signed up, which is an embarrassment of riches for, again, a movie that leads to a fight between a massive ape and a huge lizard. But that’s not all: Deadline reports that John Goodman will also travel to Skull Island, because he doesn’t tolerate bullsh*t, even from apes.
There’s also a plot synopsis, although it’s left unsaid who Goodman is playing:
The story is about a man (Hiddleston) who travels to the mythical island after his brother is stranded there trying to retrieve the mythical serum Titan which is believed to be the cure for all illnesses and diseases. The man must lead a rescue team to save his brother while confronting the creatures that inhabit the island. (Via)
Titan sounds a lot like the mystical nonsense that is Unobtanium, but what Skull Island has going for it that Avatar didn’t is Hiddleston, Larson, Jackson, Reilly, and Goodman, and not Sam Worthington. A strong cast can save an otherwise cheesy movie, or in Godzilla‘s case, a strong Cranston (his scenes were the film’s best). Also, apes. Apes help.
