“I know we’re in a strip mall,” he howled. “[But] let’s pretend this is a stadium!”
That’s the vibe Record Store Day 2015 Ambassador Dave Grohl set when Foo Fighters descended on a strip mall near his home town of Warren, Ohio. The locale was in Niles at an independent record shop called The Record Connection and seemed to be the perfect place for the band to cut loose and play the kind of set they’ve become known for at this point. It might’ve just been 150 invitees, but they treated it like a full gig. From Rolling Stone:
“We’re not far from my grandma’s house,” said Grohl, who is this year’s Record Store Day ambassador and organized the show for 150 or so lucky fans to mark the occasion. “It’s just up the road, actually.”
He also regaled the audience with tales of riding his motorcycle past Warren’s Dave Grohl Alley (“Kegger in the alley!” he shouted in invite) and of relatives who once worked near the record shop, including an uncle who formerly clerked at a shoe store in the same plaza. Indeed, it seemed weirdly appropriate when the frontman growled “memories keep haunting me” amidst a churlish “Arlandria.”

The band played a fairly stuffed set list that you can check out below. The image above shows a slight taste of how small the area was, so get onto YouTube and try replicate in your garage or something (pathetic, I know). Grohl reportedly even managed to jump on the drums during the event, throwing back to his Nirvana days and giving Taylor Hawkins a break.
