Now that Drake and Taylor Swift are reportedly dating, it’s only right that their chemistry would translate into some sessions in the studio. If reports are to be believed, Swift is doing another 180 for her next album and going for an “urban” vibe this time around. Who better to help with that than the man with the Midas touch himself — Drake.
Word in the pages of The Sun is that Taylor is diving head first into a new sound that’s being described as “a real mix of edgier hip-hop and R&B.” The lane-changing shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone as Taylor has proved her versatility by crossing over from mainstream country, first to the indie rock sounds on Red, and then to the total pop domination of 1989. “She’s not afraid of experimenting so she’s working with a lot of different faces to see if she suits a new sound,” a source told The Sun.
A fearless Taylor isn’t afraid that her “edgier” music will piss off her fans either. It didn’t when Kendrick Lamar hopped on the “Bad Blood” remix. The source added that the remix had a “less pop vibe” and and was a big hit, “so she thinks her fans will like her going in this direction.”
The publication claims Drake has already written and produced several records for the singer and even laid down vocals for a couple of songs, something he’s done in the past for ex-girlfriend Rihanna. The hitmaker helped pen Rihanna’s biggest hit of her career, “Work.” The infectious tune stayed atop the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks.
It’ll be interesting to hear what an “urban/R&B” album sounds like from Taylor Swift. If she’s serious, she should definitely reach out to Mary J. Blige because nobody does heartbreak R&B like MJB!
