Yesterday, Billboard celebrated its annual Women in Music Awards in New York. The event gathered together a who’s who of today’s most popular musical ladies, including Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Charli XCX, and Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams. Also in attendance was the Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin, who offered up an early birthday present to this generation’s version of music royalty, Taylor Swift.
What kind of gift is fitting for the newly crowned “emotionally unstable cat lady” and Spotify’s most beloved artist? How about a lovely “Happy Birthday” sung by someone with real, timeless pipes. (I think if Franklin had done her stunning cover of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep”, Swift might’ve just fainted right there on the spot.)
