There are some things that you don’t do in college sports. You don’t ever wear blue when you’re at Ohio State, you never scream “BOOMER” when you’re on the Texas campus, and above everything else, you never confuse the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers. While everyone may not think that it’s the best rivalry in college sports, it’s quite possibly the best in college football, and it’s almost definitely the one in which the fan bases hate each other the most.
Unfortunately for some guy on Tuesday’s episode of Jeopardy, he made that mistake on the simplest of questions. The category “Colleges By Team Names” popped up, and the $200 answer was “Crimson Tide.” Everyone with even a basic knowledge of college mascots knows that this is the nickname for Alabama, but in a wonderful moment of forgetfulness, this guy thought for a few seconds before determining that the Crimson Tide represent Auburn University.
Sure, everyone makes mistakes, especially on the average episode of Jeopardy. Still, this one is pretty bad from both a “mixing up two schools” perspective and a “being stumped on the first answer in the opening round of this episode” perspective. Hopefully no one in Tuscaloosa or Auburn were watching tonight, because we imagine they got really mad at this dude when this happened.
