‘Dear Black People Of The World…’

Speaking as a suburban-raised Caucasian here, I’ve always been a little awkward around the day where we honor the legacy of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior. I’m a white guy. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve benefited from the fruits of a diverse society, but…you know…we crackers never really stood in the face of oppression like those of a not-quite-totally-bygone-era, and yet there’s this holiday for everyone, just sitting there. I shouldn’t get a whole day off. At most, I shouldn’t even think about more than…oh…half a day off?

Deal. See you tomorrow.
