Evgeni Malkin already submitted one of the best goals of the young NHL season earlier this month, but he may have outdone himself on Saturday night against the Edmonton Oilers. Early in the second period, Malkin picked the pocket of an Oilers puck carrier and skated it into the zone with only one Edmonton defender in front of him.
Malkin managed to come out on top in that one-on-one battle thanks to an absolutely sick spin-o-rama backhander that sent the Pittsburgh crowd into a frenzy. Not only did the move manage to fake out defenseman Mark Fayne, the shot was so deadly and precise that it sent a deafening ping of the crossbar echoing through the arena before going bar down and in. That’s pretty much a lock to be one of the best goals all season.
