Although #GameDay4Frank didn’t come to fruition, Virginia Tech fans still made sure that they went out of their way to ensure that legendary Hokies’ head coach Frank Beamer was properly honored in his final home game before his retirement.
First, the Hokies announced they would wear these commemorative patches on their uniforms as well as matching decals on their helmets that sported Beamers’ image.

On top of that, the field at Lane Stadium was also painted to honor the VA Tech coach of nearly three decades.

Although the ESPN crew opted to go to Columbus for Ohio State-Michigan State instead of Blacksburg, they still paid tribute to Beamer on “GameDay,” as Beamer and Virginia Tech were crucial in turning the show into what it is today.

Once the game started, the Hokie fans who filled the stadium for the noon kickoff gave Beamer a huge ovation when he ran onto the field for the last time and erupted into a thunderous “Thank You Beamer” chant.

VA Tech has been using “Enter Sandman” as their unofficial theme song for some time now, so even Metallica paid tribute to Beamer’s retirement with a special video message for fans at the stadium.
Finally, reporters in the press box were given a print out of this collection of special messages to Beamer from dozens of people such as: Nick Saban, Sean Payton, former Virginia Governor Mark Warner, Beamer’s wife and son, and many ex-Virginia Tech players.
Speaking of former players, it’s unsurprising that many of them were on hand to witness Beamer’s final game, including perhaps his most famous former quarterback.

Regardless of whether or not Virginia Tech ends the season on a high note, Beamer’s career was certainly given the recognition it deserved thanks to the Hokies’ faithful.
