One of the drawbacks of following one set of characters on The Walking Dead is that we’re only seeing a fraction of the zombie apocalypse that has overtaken the entire world. With Fear the Walking Dead, we’re seeing new characters at the beginning of the outbreak, but still — a small part of a very big story. But now, AMC has announced a very cool way to address one terrifying aspect of the beginning of the zombie-infested world: what happens when a zombie attack occurs on a plane during a flight.
Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive information about the upcoming half-hour special that will tie in to Fear the Walking Dead:
…AMC is producing a half-hour special that will tell a stand-alone story following a group of passengers facing a walker attack on an airline while in flight. One character who survives that encounter will then join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead in season two.
The truly die-hard Walking Dead fanbase knows that separate stories have been appearing online as part of a web series. That’s actually how this new plane story will be presented, but it will also be teased during the actual show when it’s on TV:
The airline attack story will debut online, and will unfold this in chapters that will air during Walking Dead’s on-air telecasts. In other words: You’re watching The Walking Dead, AMC cuts to commercial break, then you get a chapter in the as-yet-untitled stand-alone airline attack drama.
It’s a very cool way to incorporate different forms of media to tell more stories about the zombie outbreak, and now we’re going to see some motherf*cking zombies on a motherf*cking plane! That has to be one of the most horrifying scenarios, but at least one person is going to survive to tell the tale. I’m guessing they’ll be thankful for the free barf bags.
