The mainstream media’s coverage of Election Night is going to be totally insufferable because what passes for “political analysis” in this country is the same thing that passes for “sports analysis,” and if I wanted to hear a bunch of pompous idiots pontificate at each other about whether Mitt Romney’s flag pin helped rally the base in Ohio I would probably jump off a bridge because NO ONE should want to hear that, and it would mean I’ve become as much of a boob as the flapping set of gums with a $200 haircut who’s responsible for putting that moronic opinion into the universe in the first place. Unacceptable all around.
Luckily, Comedy Central announced today that The Daily Show and The Colbert Report will be doing live shows at 11:00 and 11:30, which will hopefully bring a little sanity and levity to the proceedings.
The fake news shows plan Election Night shows at 11 PM/8 PM PT and 11:30 PM/8:30 PM. Stewart’s Election Night 2012: This Ends Now will feature early results and analysis from Stewart and the show’s regular correspondents. Stephen Colbert’s Election 2012: A Nation Votes, Ohio Decides; The Re-Presidenting of America: Who Will Replace Obama? ’012! will include a guest appearance by columnist Andrew Sullivan. [Deadline]
I get that these shows aren’t exactly everyone’s cup of political tea (the worst tea of all), but they’ll probably keep me from throwing my television out the window on Tuesday while cursing Chuck Todd’s name into the night sky, so even just to the extent you enjoy my musings on popular shows and the actors and actresses who star in them, this is pretty good news.
