Ever since Donald Glover-turned-Childish Gambino-turned-Donald Glover‘s series pitch Atlanta got a pilot order from FX in November, 2014, fans have been left to wonder about what the new show might entail for the Community and The Martian star. Often described as a rap comedy, Atlanta “revolves around two cousins on their way up through the Atlanta rap scene whose opposing views on art versus commerce, success and race will make their quest anything but easy.”
Aside from FX’s subsequent 10-episode order and last summer’s casting news, very little is known about Glover’s new series. And if the 30-second promo that the network dropped late Thursday is any indication, the show’s mysterious nature isn’t going to change anytime soon. In fact, we probably won’t know anything too concrete about it until Atlanta premieres sometime in September. If the spot’s adept use of Tame Impala’s “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” is any indication, though, our ears are in for as much of a treat as our eyes. (Glover’s self-deprecation to the contrary, the artist sometimes known as Childish Gambino has great taste in music and never holds back when calling other acts out on a “dope release.”)
Seriously, Last Man On Earth and Baskets cinematographer Christian Sprenger‘s slick camera movements in the above teaser are a thing of beauty.
