“Sometimes the end is just a new beginning.” That’s true of life and of HBO’s revolutionary TV series Looking.
The comedy-drama that centered on a group of gay friends navigating love and their individual pursuits of happiness while living in San Francisco offered up a refreshingly genuine take on what life is like for gay men when it premiered in 2014. It had a stellar cast fronted by Tony-nominated Jonathan Groff and was praised by critics for its authenticity and compelling storytelling.
Sadly, the show never made much of an impact in the ratings department, so it came as no surprise when the network gave Looking the axe following its sophomore season. Luckily for fans, HBO does have a heart so while the show may have been cancelled, that doesn’t mean Patrick, Agustin, Richie and Dom’s stories are done quite yet. Following online petitions begging HBO to bring the series back, the network announced it would give Looking the send-off it deserved by airing a special that would wrap up each character’s journey, hopefully to fans’ satisfaction.
Now we’ve finally got the first look at that much-touted swan song episode — a feature-length special. The trailer for Looking: The Movie is here and it’s ready to play with your emotions. The short teaser shows Groff’s Patrick returning to San Fran after leaving for Colorado. He’s back for a certain friend’s wedding but it looks like not all of the reunions are happy ones.
Looking: The Movie is slated to air on HBO on July 23rd (so get your tissues ready now).
