HBO has already signed up Evan Rachel Wood and Anthony Hopkins for its remake of Michael Crichton’s Westworld, and over the weekend they added a dozen other actors to the cast, including Boardwalk Empire‘s Jeffrey Wright, Lost‘s Rodrigo Santoro and Raising Hope‘s Shannon Woodward.
The most interesting addition, though, is James Marsden. According to Deadline, Marsden:
…will play Teddy Flood
please be a sexy cowboy robot please be a sexy cowboy robot please be a sexy cowboy robot please be a sexy cowboy robot please be a sexy cowboy robot please be a sexy cowboy robot please
…a mysterious new arrival to a small frontier town who quickly proves both his charm, and his talent, with a revolver.
THAT SOUNDS SEXY AND ROBOTIC TO ME.
Wright will be playing “the brilliant and quixotic head of the park’s Programming Division” which sounds a lot like his Hunger Games character, but probably with less child murder. Santoro will be playing “Westworld’s perennial ‘Most Wanted’ bandit” which is basically as close as they’re going to get to telling you he’s the Yul Brynner. I’m not exactly mad about that, either.
My memories of Westworld are surprisingly vague, as they’ve been replaced with my fondness for the terrible sequeltude of Futureworld. It sounds like this HBO revamp is going to focus more on the inner workings of a robot adventure park, rather than the “robots gone wild” aspect of the film. Regardless, there’s zero chance that HBO isn’t going to keep the sexbots aspect of the original, so I’ve got great expectations already.
