While the likes of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert slum it on, ugh, BASIC cable, now-former Daily Show correspondent/host John Oliver has hit the pay(cable)load: a show of his very own on HBO. According to TVLine, Olivier will launch a “topical weekly comedy series on HBO” in 2014. The format will be a “satirical look at the week in news, politics, and current events,” giving Olivier plenty of chances to say “f*ck you, Congress” without a bleep.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining HBO,” Oliver said, “especially as I presume this means I get free HBO now. I want to thank Comedy Central, and everyone at The Daily Show for the best seven and a half years of my life. But most of all, I’d like to thank Jon Stewart. He taught me everything I know. In fact, if I fail in the future, it’s entirely his fault.” (Via)
If this show isn’t titled Cheesed Off with Oliver & Company, it’s, like, why even have an England?
