One of the cardinal rules of TV is: Never assume someone is dead unless you see the body. This applies to both humans and direwolves. There’s a good chance one long-lost Game of Thrones character is still alive because we never saw him die, but the same can’t be said for Shaggydog. He’s dead. One decapitated head is as good as a full corpse, but some Game of Thrones fans are in denial. “That can’t be Shaggydog. It’s an imposter. The Umbers wouldn’t betray the Starks like that.” That part might be true, but the rest? The thing about Shaggydog? Rickon Stark has some bad news for you #truthers.
When asked whether that was actually Shaggy, actor Art Parkinson said:
“Uh, yeah, I’d say so. It was a little bit disappointing because, you know, looking at the dogs we had on set… and that you’d never really get to hang out with them again. When I read that Shaggydog was dead, I was definitely a little upset.” (Via Huffington Post)
That is the most Game of Thrones thing to do to the poor kid. It’s Parkinson’s first scene in three seasons! He’s thrilled! Except, “oh yeah,” the producers tell him, “your beloved direwolf has to die and his head will be presented to Ramsey.” Now that Tommen has more to do, Ser Pounce better watch out.
