Well, I guess Jon Stewart could have added another line item to his perfectly delivered Florida screed, because on new office mats, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office official seal reads “In Dog We Trust.” OK, let’s be real here. I used to be a graphic designer and mistakes happen all the time. I mean ALL THE TIME. But hey it’s Florida and it’s low hanging fruit so this is still our reaction. The NY Daily News has the scoop on the mix-up:
“It has been brought to our attention, and we’re working to fix it,” department spokeswomen Cristen Smith told the Daily News. The rest of the mats’ design, including the department’s name, appears to be spelled correctly.
It’s not clear if the “fix” Smith mentioned means ordering entirely new rugs, finding a way to mend the typo or embracing the pooch-loving new motto.
EMBRACE THE MOTTO! EMBRACE THE MOTTO! I think the first step would obviously be to become one of those towns to elect a dog for mayor, because obviously then the mats would read literally, as in, “we put our trust in the mayor.” And really, I’m guessing swapping any Florida mayor out for a dog would probably not cause much of a change in efficiency, when it comes down to it.
