It’s been a decade since the tragic passing “The Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin, an anniversary that is being greeted with remembrances and tributes to the fallen wildlife expert. One piece of his life that has just appeared is a letter Irwin wrote to his parents when he was 32 years old. Irwin’s father, Bob, has included the note in his soon to be released memoir. According to US Weekly, Bob found the letter his son wrote to him and his wife Lyn nestled in a book for nearly 12 years and it shows appreciation for their role as parents:
“Probably one of the most unfortunate things in a ‘Bloke’s Life’ is that it takes over 30 years to realize how essential you have been to build my character, my ethics and, most importantly, my HAPPINESS,” the wildlife expert’s letter, written 12 years before his death, reads. “At 32, I am finally starting to figure it out. In good times and in bad, you were there. Your strength and endurance to raise me will not go unrewarded. My love for you is my strength! For the rest of my life I will reflect on the unbelievably GREAT times we’ve shared and will continue to share. You’re my best friends!”

Irwin even included an extra note on the envelope for his parents, driving home his appreciation:
“Please be happy to know that your strength and wisdom have been passed on.”
Irwin’s family have carried on his legacy following his death from a stingray injury in 2006, with Bindi Irwin taking her father’s public work as her own. It’s still hard to believe that the guy could be killed considering all of the wild and dangerous things he faced during his career, but it’s nice to know that there was a guy like that running around. This note is just another piece of that legacy.
