Because the Clippers are alive
When you think of basketball and Los Angeles, the first things that come to mind are Showtime, Magic, Kareem, Big Game James, Kobe, Shaq and Phil.
The Lakers are basketball in L.A., while their roommates in the Staples Center for the last nine years have been the forgotten stepchild of the city and of the League. But the era of the Clippers being irrelevant in Hollywood might be behind us.
This offseason was monumental for the Clips. L.A.-born and UCLA-bred Baron Davis returned home with a five-year, $65 million contract and is now the team’s floor general. Defensive stalwart Marcus Camby was acquired via trade from the Nuggets, and super-frosh Eric Gordon was selected seventh overall in the ’08 draft.
Along with vets Cuttino Mobley, Tim Thomas, Ricky Davis and young impact players Al Thornton and Chris Kaman, the Clips have the personnel to make some noise — not only in the Staples Center, but in the Western Conference playoff race.
Do you think the new-look Clippers are postseason material?
