As the saying goes: stars — they’re just like us!
EDM kingpin Diplo wants to prove this is true in a clip promoting Mad Decent Block Party, by having ’90s heartthrob James Van Der Beek take the role of the JackÜ producer. He begins this ‘day in the life’ tour by stating to the camera, “People come up to me all the time they say: ‘Diplo, man, your life must be crazy!’ Nah, it’s just life fam, ain’t no different from y’alls.”
The Dawson’s Creek star tries to go deeper to solidify this, but fails miserably, as he depicts the “Where Are Ü Now” artist being woken up by a live harpist, walking through his office where dollar bills fall from the ceiling, fighting ninjas and riding off on a white stallion.
Yet amidst liberal use of the DJ airhorn as well as the word “fam,” we see that Diplo’s life isn’t all gold satin sheets and extraneous twerkers. Upon leaving each room, Diplo’s look-a-like inspires eye rolls, middle fingers and even a blatant assertion from his elf clad studio engineer, “I hate this f*cking house.”
However, as Van Der Beek eloquently puts it, “ain’t no compliment greater than a hater.”
Diplo’s traveling music tour, Mad Decent Block Party kicks off on July 30 in Ft. Lauderdale and will feature headliners from Kesha, Tiësto, DJ Snake, Snakehips, Zeds Dead and many others.
