[Update: The unidentified man who was rushed to the hospital following a fall from the upper deck at Tuner Field during Saturday’s Atlanta Braves game has died according to the Associated Press.

Quite the tragic turn of events. Police have reported there was no indication of foul play. The following report was published prior to this development.]

A fan was rushed to the hospital after falling from the upper deck of Turner Field during Saturday night’s game between the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees. Though there’s been no official report, police have told reporters that he’s currently in “grave” condition:

The fan was reportedly leaning over the railing during the seventh inning to heckle a Yankees player when he toppled over the side. From The New York Daily News:

The body appeared to make contact with a wire connected to the screen behind home plate, shaking the entire screen and all of the attached wires before landing on the stairway by the third row of Section 101.

Security guarded the area for the rest of the game while the first seven rows of the section remained empty except for one fan in the fourth row that decided to stay and watch the game from the grisly scene. By the eighth inning, the section had been emptied entirely and yellow police tape had been placed over the section, while the blood had been cleaned up from the ground.

After being tended to by nearly half a dozen paramedics, the fan was strapped to a board and rushed to a nearby hospital. The Braves have released the following statement:

Unfortunately, this is not the first time the Braves and their fans have witnessed a tragedy like this. A little more than two years ago, 30-year-old Ronald Homer fell to his death at Turner Field during a rain delay.

As of publication, there has been no further update regarding the unidentified fan’s condition, but we will keep an eye on this story as it develops.
