Florence + The Machine feel like they’ve been around a lot longer than they actually have, but the reality is that the band just released their third studio album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, their first since 2011’s Ceremonials.
Whereas Ceremonials topped out on the charts at No. 6, their new album is set to debut at No. 1, the first time the band will secure the top spot on the charts. Their debut album, Lungs, made it to No. 14 in 2010. Good news is a welcome sight for the band, who got the summer started with vocalist Florence Welch breaking her foot during a performance at Coachella.
A throwback of sorts, Welch, who battled alcohol abuse prior to recording the new album, packs a dynamic vocal punch, and the band’s music has the kind of orchestral vibe to it that’s a foreign commodity on today’s pop-music charts.
Florence + The Machine are on tour this summer, making the festival rounds, including Bonnaroo and Governor’s Ball, among others. They recently dropped their second single from How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, the Stevie Nicks-esque “Ship To Wreck.”
