Competitive eating’s most prestigious torch has been passed, as Matt “Megatoad” Stonie has won the 2015 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Stonie upended Joey Chestnut, the eight-time defending champion who has not lost in this contest since 2007. The two were close the entire way, but Stonie was able to eat 62 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, compared to Chestnut’s 60. Those two destroyed everyone else in the field, as the third-place contestant – Tim “Eater X” Janus – only consumed 35 hot dogs and buns. Here’s the nutritional information on what happens when you eat 62 hot dogs:

You may have heard Stonie’s name before, as he was the No. 2 ranked competitive eater in the world heading into today. He has built up a reputation for eating an incredible amount of food in videos on YouTube. Stonie has consumed a five-pound burrito in two minutes, drank seven Shamrock Shakes from McDonald’s in less than five minutes, and once ate Michael Phelps’ entire daily 12,000+ calorie diet in one sitting. The San Jose native also holds a bevy of world records, including the bacon, birthday cake, and frozen yogurt eating records.
Stonie was unable to break Chestnut’s record of 69 hot dogs and buns consumed in 10 minutes. If you’d like to watch the rerun of this historic event, it will air on ESPN at 4 p.m. EST.
