Last summer, the Supergirl pilot was pitched to CW president Mark Pedowitz, and he turned it down. The show was grabbed up by CBS, and, with The Big Bang Theory as its lead-in for its premiere, it’s bound to draw a huge audience for the network.
On Tuesday at an appearance in front of the Television Critics Association, Pedowitz revealed that he regrets passing on the show.
“We hadn’t launched The Flash yet, we weren’t ready to take on another DC property,” said Pedowitz of the network brass’ thinking back then. “In hindsight we probably should’ve gone that direction… Sometime you lose great shows.”
Not wanting another superhero franchise didn’t stop the network from later developing Legends of Tomorrow, of course. And Pedowitz is hoping Greg Berlanti (who produces all three shows) will be open to a crossover event between Supergirl and The CW’s The Flash and Arrow series.
Supergirl premieres on CBS on October 26 at 8:30 p.m., and then will move to its regular 8 p.m. time slot.
