Not even a week ago, word hit that Antoine Fuqua was developing a Training Day TV series. After shopping the idea around to the Big Four networks, Variety is reporting that CBS landed the project and will produce the pilot with Fuqua set to direct and executive produce.
Joining Fuqua on the project is Jerry Bruckheimer, who will also serve as executive producer. LAPD detective turned screenwriter Will Beall (Gangster Squad, Castle) will write the pilot’s script. The original film was penned by David Ayer and won Denzel Washington an Oscar for his performance. Rumor has it that the new series will switch the races of the roles, making the seasoned officer white, with the rookie being African-American.
If Training Day does indeed get picked up by the network, it will become the latest movie-to-TV project to make it onto the CBS roster, which includes the new Rush Hour series adaptation and the Bradley Cooper-produced Limitless.
