The NBA isn’t just about basketball.
Money saves many professional athletes from lives of poverty, but also leads to to additional strife if it isn’t handled properly. The same goes for fame and its endless corollaries. NBA players are pulled every direction possible from family, friends, business partners, and hangers-on as they rise from draft prospect to rookie, youngster to veteran, and hopefully mold into a star. The ill-effects gleaned from that reality are sweeping, and especially difficult to overcome if players don’t have a proper support system in place.
All of that’s obvious based on league happenings throughout the calendar year, but you’ll be able to experience it first-hand in NBA 2K16. This latest trailer for the world’s preeminent hoops video game, directed by Spike Lee, previews the trials and tribulations of MyCAREER mode.
“You don’t think I realize that I have vultures and bloodsucking leeches in my life?” the created player asks. “Don’t think I realize that you’re one of them?”
“Livin’ Da Dream” doesn’t only mean splashing jumpers, crossing defenders, and posterizing big men en route to championships and global celebrity. Not even working hard and making the right decisions can ensure a player’s career won’t be wrought with drama.
This is the price of playing in the NBA. Is it worth it? You can find out when NBA2K 16 drops on September 29th.
