In case you didn’t know, people are brands. Blake Lively said so and she’s what is known as a “tastemaker” with her own set of lifestyle items that allow you to live your life the same way she does. And it’s not only her; Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow have their own lifestyle line ups (who wouldn’t want to live their life the “goop” way). That’s why Stephen Colbert is ready to launch his own.
Taking a cue from his fellow celebrities, and hoping to beat Alan Rickman to the punch, Stephen Colbert launched Covetton House. This is his way of selling people a lifestyle that he fully endorses, while also clearing out the excess junk from the prop warehouse. And to be honest, I’d rather pay a ludicrous price for a candle scented like absinthe over a wooden crate made by some skeevy idiot in Brooklyn and sold online for $95 bucks. At least I could pretend to be drunk.
No matter how you look at it, though, this is a spot on ribbing on those ridiculous lifestyle campaigns by celebrities. They’re enough to make you sick, but hopefully not sick enough to want to buy their junk. Unless said junk is at a yard sale because I’m a sucker for a good yard sale.
