Add Tracy Morgan‘s name to the Richard Pryor biopic starring Mike Epps as the embattled actor and comedian. Morgan will portray comedian and television star Redd Foxx in the film. The comedian released a statement saying, “Mr. Foxx, I hope I do you justice! It will be an honor to portray an icon.”
Redd Foxx was known for his chain-smoking standup routines which included subjects like sex and racism, both taboo at the time. From 1972 to 1977, Foxx starred in the hit sitcom Sanford and Son. Foxx and Pryor both appeared together in the 1989 Eddie Murphy film Harlem Nights. Kate Hudson, Taraji P. Henson, Eddie Murphy and Oprah Winfrey also star in the biopic, which is still in pre-production with a script by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls), and Lee Daniels directing.
Epps, who headlines the film, will also play Richard Pryor in the Nina Simone biopic, Nina, which is scheduled for release in 2016.
