If it was Les Miles’ last game as LSU’s coach, he certainly went out in style. With rumors surrounding his job status the past week the LSU football team rallied behind their coach won their last home game of the season against Texas A&M.

The night was marked with emotion as fans cheered and shouted Miles’ name before and during the game. Then, players hoisted Miles on their shoulders and carried him off the field as fans – still in their seats – cheered Miles on. If that doesn’t give the school’s administration second thoughts about sending him packing, I’m not sure what will.

Update: And like one of Miles’ trademark trick plays, after the game the LSU administration made an unexpected announcement. LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva put an end to a weeks long speculation about Miles’ job security by declaring Miles would remain the coach of LSU.

LSU was widely criticized by many in the media and some notable alumni about their handling of the situation leading up to the Texas A&M game. Shaquille O’Neal, during an interview on the LSU sideline, told the LSU administration should show Miles some more respect.

The question on most people’s minds now is what happens next. Will Miles get together with the athletic administration and be forced to make some changes to update what is considered antiquated offensive philosophy? Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron’s contract is up at the end of the season, and chances are he most likely won’t be back.

With the number one recruiting class coming in next year and Herschel Walker – ahem, Leonard Fournette – coming back, LSU will once again be considered title contenders in the SEC and possibly make a run at a national championship.

With the week over and his job status now secure, Miles showed his trademark stubbornness mixed with some humor in his post-game press conference. Responding to questions about his offensive philosophy Miles pointed to Fournette (or the engine of the offense, according to Miles) and jokingly asked about whether the running back would be a part of the offensive overhaul.

Oh, and of course he had to dab.
