Watch John Mulaney And Nick Kroll Take The ‘Bachelor’ Post-Show Straight Off The Rails

Quick background: Comedians John Mulaney and Nick Kroll have these characters they play named George St. Geegland and Gil Faizon, two older New Yorkers who love, in no particular order, books by Alan Alda, cocaine, and pranking their friends and associates with comically large tuna sandwiches. They made semi-frequent appearances on Comedy Central’s Kroll Show. They are now touring with an off-Broadway play. They are delightful. Google them.

I bring them up now for two reasons. One, because I like talking about them. And two, for reasons I will never understand, but be forever grateful for, ABC invited them to appear on last night’s Bachelor post-show, Bachelor Live. Which as you may have deduced from the title, is broadcast live.

As you also may have deduced, from general life experiences, there’s not necessarily a huge overlap between your average Bachelor fans and fans of incredibly weird alternative comedy. So, when they made their entrance, about three-quarters of the way through the hour-long show, after host Chris Harrison and guests Paul F. Tompkins and Paget Brewster had broken down the night’s episode and spoken to recently departed contestant Lace (who had just chosen to leave the house of her own accord, quoting her own inspirational tattoo in the process), all hell broke loose a little bit.

The material was terrific, as expected. Nick Kroll, as Gil, proposed to Lace with a Werther’s Original, and then John Mulaney, as George, called the contestants “white devils” for the way they treated Jubilee, a black contestant who was driven to tears by the other people in the house for being standoffish and “complicated.”

It really was great. But the best part came after the show, when Mulaney went on Twitter and started RTing livid and/or confused Bachelor fans who had no idea what the hell they were watching. A sampling:

Now all we need is Mulaney and Kroll showing up at these people’s homes or places of business with overstuffed tuna sandwiches, and we’ll have ourselves a storybook ending.
