Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory becomes the latest release to join the 10 million-sellers club, as it crosses the mammoth threshold this week. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the band’s debut set — released in 2000 — sold another 3,000 this week, bringing its to-date total in the U.S. to just over 10 million…Hybrid Theory also happens to be one of only four 10-million sellers that did not reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Twain’s Come On Over halted at No. 2, Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Legend (11.1 million) reached No. 18 and Backstreet Boys’ self-titled debut (10.1 million) hit No. 4. (Via)
3,000 PEOPLE BOUGHT HYBRID THEORY, which came out nearly 12 years ago, LAST WEEK. Who are these people? Haven’t they heard of the Internet? And I don’t mean torrenting the album — you can buy a used copy for all $0.01 on Amazon. Maybe Linkin Park fans are swimming in money, but they listen to nu-metal to blend in with the common man. Whatever the reason, Hybrid became only the 10th (and worst) album released since 2000 to achieve diamond status, a.k.a. sell 10 million copies. Here are the other nine.
