5 Albums Coming Out This Week That Don’t Suck

As fun as it is to complain about “music these days,” and how it’s all been downhill since The Chronic came out, it’s even MORE fun to listen to — wait for it — good music. Every Tuesday, a.k.a. Music Release Day, we’ll highlight five albums worth (legally) downloading or driving to the local Best Buy (lolz) for.

Today, we’ve got albums from Divine Fits, A$AP Mob, Dan Deacon, and more.

A Thing Called Divine Fits by Divine Fits

The first album from sort of-supergroup Spoon’s Britt Daniels, Wolf Parade’s Dan Boeckner, and New Bomb Turks’ Sam Brown sounds like a smoother Spoon, but with more synth and less twitchy anxiety that hovers over the band’s discography.

Welcome to: Our House by Slaughterhouse

With production from Eminem, Slaughterhouse’s major label debut is at its best when it creeps along, confident in its purpose and not giving a crap if you don’t follow along. The beats are hard, the feelings are uncompromising, and Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, and Royce Da 5’9” are on the verge of something big.

Lords Never Worry by A$AP Mob

America by Dan Deacon

Dan Deacon most closely resembles a mad scientist who puts together his instruments through parts and pieces he’s discovered while aimlessly wandering, with a wildly messy tune in his head. The fact that he named his hyperactive, electronic orchestra album America only goes to prove that he think he’s the sane one.

Seer by Swans

Or, the music demon therapists play in Hell’s mental hospitals. Tranquil, in a terrifying way.
