How do you feel about Iggy Pop’s upcoming full-length Post Pop Depression? Steady now, it might be the last album you’ll ever get from the proto-punk godhead.
The 68-year-old man that’s internationally recognized as worth a million in prizes has revealed that he might be packing it in recording-wise after this new record with Josh Homme. It was a subject that bubbled up during an interview with Matt Wilkinson for Apple Music. The Stooges legend presented his potential retirement from recording albums as more of a prediction than a promise.
“I feel like I’m closing up after this. That’s what I feel. It’s my gut instinct.”
That’s not to say he’s giving up music altogether…
“No. If you call me and you want to work out a deal to come and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ at your mother’s, something like that I’ll refer you to someone. But to really make a real album you really have to put everything into it and the energy’s more limited now.”
If Post Pop Depression is the last entry into Iggy Pop’s discography, it’s not like the dude is retiring without a quality album or six to his name. The Idiot, Lust for Life and Brick by Brick alone are all legacy-cementing full-length gems and that’s just factoring in the Stooge’s solo work. Please keep this in mind if you do haggle with Iggy over his “Happy Birthday” offer for your mom.
