Allen Iverson was named as one of 14 finalists for the 2016 Basketball Hall of Fame alongside the likes of fellow NBA greats Shaquille O’Neal and Yao Ming, college coaching legends Bo Ryan, Tom Izzo, Eddie Sutton, and Muffet McGraw and former WNBA star Sheryl Swoopes.
NBA TV’s Rick Kamla interviewed the Sixers legend after the announcement, telling him “we may be seeing you later this summer.” A confused Iverson was hilariously skeptical of a potential meet-up with the veteran reporter, shooting back with a bewildered, “Later this summer…where?”
It was only after Kamla clarified that he meant in Springfield, Massachusetts – you know, where the Basketball Hall of Fame is located – that Iverson finally understood.
While the eleven-time NBA All-Star cracked everyone up with his confusion, he also got serious, saying that being able to share the stage with other finalists and Hall of Famers made him “feel like somebody. And most importantly, the Hampton, VA native gave a shout out to whom he called his number one inspiration: his mom.
It’s also crucial to mention that Iverson had by far the best outfit of all the potential nominees and other legends that attended the announcement.
