The final Michael Scott episode of The Office (not including the finale) aired five years ago, but B.J. Novak, who played Ryan Howard on the long-running NBC sitcom, is still coming up with ideas for the Michael Scott Paper Company founder. It’s sort of like when you realized you could get two Pepsis for the price of one from the office vending machine a half-decade after you quit that job, except it has nothing to do with soda and it’s about one of the most popular sitcom characters ever. Other than that, exactly the same thing.
Yesterday, Novak tweeted:
IDEAS I HAD FOR MICHAEL SCOTT THIS WEEK
-He buys gift cards for himself from his favorite stores
-He picks the first middle seat when he flies Southwest, to make friends (Via)
I’m imagining a half-conscious Novak — who wrote many of The Office‘s finest episodes, including “The Fire” — waking up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, screaming, “MICHAEL SCOTT TRIES TO RENT A TWO-PERSON HORSE COSTUME FOR HIMSELF.” Then he goes back to sleep. You can take the B.J. Novak out of the Michael Scott, but you can’t take the Michael Scott out of the B.J. Novak. That’s what she said.
