Kylie Minogue is the OG of famous Kylies and wants to be addressed as such. The Australian pop star has opposed reality TV star Kylie Jenner’s filing for a trademark on the name “Kylie.”
The opposition – filed on Minogue’s behalf by KDB – argues that the use of Kylie could cause confusion between the two, dilute her brand and tarnish it via association with Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Before Americans go all “Who is this Minogue?”, you should know that the singer has sold 80 million albums (and that “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” is a certified banger).
The filing called Jenner a “secondary reality TV personality” and added that Jenner’s “photographic exhibitionism and controversial posts from the Disability Rights and African-American communities.”
KDB and Minogue do have a point. The Kardashians aren’t exactly a positive thing to be accidentally associated with. Beyond the typical surface-level hatred by hordes of people, it does look like their brand is in decline with or without Kanye. You don’t stay successful for as long as Minogue has by hitching your wagon to a sickly ox.
No word yet on whether or not Jenner will take on the girl who thought she was Kylie after wisdom teeth surgery.
