As if the Friday afternoon madness – and maybe the biggest upset in NCAA Tournament history – wasn’t enough, Iowa had to join the party with some March Madness fun of its own.
The Hawkeyes squandered a lead late in regulation and allowed Temple to get back in it, but Adam Woodbury collected a rebound and dropped it in right at the buzzer to give Iowa the win. This was a much-needed momentum boost for the Hawkeyes, who had about as nightmarish of a last few weeks as a team could have heading into the tournament.
Iowa lost five of its last six games down the stretch, including dropping its first game of the Big Ten tournament to Illinois. After allowing Temple to get back in the game and push overtime, it seemed like more heartbreak was on the way, and Temple even had foul shots with the game tied, but couldn’t hit the front end of a one-and-one. Iowa had a chance at the last shot, and Woodbury played hero after his put-back try.

Sure, it was a bit of a push-off maybe, but fair or not that call gets ignored by the refs late in tournament games all the time. In the battle of the Frans, Iowa Fran came away the victor this time.
